Introduction What education and skills are needed and beneficial to succeed in topics of study at the university level and in careers that you deem engaging and worthwhile?
There are many different skills needed to succeed at a university. Depending on the student and the major, you need to build multiple sets of skills to succeed. I think that motivation and time management are the best skills to have. You need motivation to push yourself through the harder times of college so you are able to finish college successfully to get the career you want. You need time management to get through all of your classes and balance everything you have in your life. Open-mindedness is also a key skill because when going into college, you are going into a completely different environment from high school with a whole new crowd of people. You can even possibly be in a whole knew state where you have to adjust to how they live in that area. You have to be prepared for the heavier work load and knew subjects you will be learning.
The colleges I have chosen below are on my list because they all have my choice in major, either psychology or criminology. With all of this, the skills I need are patience, motivation, time management, and many more.
My goal is to go to college and major in either psychology or criminology. While I complete one of those majors I will also be taking my required pre medical classes. When applying to Med school, my choice of major will stand out because medical schools like to see a diversity in majors. With a criminology major that would be rare and med schools would be more interested in me rather than a student that majored in biology. During medical school I plan on focusing on Emergency Medicine and possibly becoming a trauma surgeon.

College Fair Interview |
10 year plan |
I interviewed Haylee Sindt, a senior at Pitzer College. She graduated from High Tech High in 2014. I asked her about her transition from High Tech to a private college. She said that there is a big difference in work load and there are a lot more tests. High Tech helped her with being able to speak to her professors and give presentations. I asked her what skills I should build to be more prepared for college and she said learn how to balance everything you have going on in your life as well as motivation. She said that there are times when you just want to drop all of your classes but because you know you have a set goal for yourself, you get motivation and you are able to push through.
